Russian Dinamo Kazan claims bronze at 2012 CEV Champions League – Volleyball news
Dinamo Kazan, the top women’s volleyball club of Russia, defeated Italian MC-Carnaghi Villa Cortese in the third position match of 2012 CEV Champions League on Sunday.
They Russians posted 3-1 (25-13, 25-17, 24-26, 25-23) victory over the opponent and got hold of the bronze medal. The classification match was followed by final of the tournament, where Turkish Fenerbahce Universal Istanbul held RC Cannes of France for a
splendid straight set win. At the end of the day, the top four teams of the tournament settled down in following order:
Fenerbahce Universal Istanbul - Turkey RC Cannes – France Dinamo Kazan – Russia MC-Carnaghi Villa Cortese – Italy
Before the start of classification match, both teams and spectators in presence observed silence for a minute in order to commemorate Vigor Bovolenta, who tragically passed away during a match on Saturday.
The match was officially opened by Italian team and they quickly scored the first three points of the game. With a good opening, the Villa Cortese ladies further tried to stretch the gap of points.
Meanwhile, Dinamo grasped the game plan of opponents and came up with counter attack. Russian wing spiker Jordan Larson came out firing and put her team in lead. Furthermore, Ekaterina Gamova also joined hands with Larson and the duo devastated Italian defence.
The pumped Italian squad suffered heavy set-backs and seemed to have lost form. Despite a strong opening in the match, they dropped the first set after scoring only 13 points.
In the following set, Villa Cortese came up with nice combination of players. They put the attackers in front row and also strengthened the defence line. As a result, Italian score soared up and they build a lead.
However, Dinamo Kazan bounced back in the game and chased the score. The first tie of the scores in second set was created at 5-all.
Afterwards, Italians gave good competition to the Russian counterparts but failed to achieve success. Dinamo extended it lead to 2-0 by capturing second set with a margin of eight points.
Third set unfolded the same story as the score shifted up with close gaps. Russian top guns Ekaterina and Larson paced things off with long cross court shots and convincing spikes.
On the other side of the net, team Italia was in aggressive mode. They put all their efforts to overcome the resilient rivals. The game continued until the set points, while the suspense moved the fans back and forth in their seat. Eventually, Italian team
hit the mark and claimed fourth set with two points.
Villa Cortese was expected to give its best shot in fourth set, in order to save the match but Dinamo Kazan was also prepared for win. They did not allow Italy to come up and claimed match victory by winning fourth set.
