Russian Dinamo Kazan sends Germans to a 3-0 home loss – Volleyball news
The wonderful action of European women’s volleyball resumed on Wednesday, February 1, after the completion of league round of 2012 CEV Champions League.
The top 16 squads out of 20 teams entered the quarter-finals and opened the crucial round on Wednesday. One of the matches featured teams from Russia and Germany. The Russian Dinamo Kazan went against Germany’s Dresdner SC. Germans hosted the match but failed
to profit the home advantage. The Russian musketeers staged eye-catching action on the net and clinched success in straight sets of 25-12, 25-20, and 25-13.
The next match between these two teams is scheduled to be played in Kazan, Russia. With one victory in hand, Dinamo Kazan has fair chances to win the second match and to qualify for the next round of the competition. Dresdner SC will have to give flawless
performance in order to cover the deficit.
Equipped with stupendous support of home audience in the Margon Arena, the German ladies opened the match by posting first point on the scoreboard. However, they were promptly retaliated by the Russian side with a quick rally of 4-0.
Meanwhile, the coach of German team opted for the timeout at 4-1 and regrouped the players. The strategy and plan of German coach did not seem to work as Kazan continued at same pace. They easily managed to land the ball in German half and cruised past to
11-3 lead, which forced the Germans to use the second technical timeout.
Nothing could hinder the performance of Dinamo Kazan, while all the efforts of Dresdner SC went into vain. American Jordan Larson proved to be the top weapon of Kazan and wrecked the defence line of Germans.
The middle-blockers of Dresdner floated their hands up in the air to stop the swinging shots but remained unsuccessful. Russian spikes clawed their way to the ground and benefitted the team. Ultimately, Dinamo Kazan secured first set after the Germans had
scored only 12 points.
The second set featured a balanced action in the first few minutes but then turned into a one-sided affair. Hosts did go up on the scoreboard before the first technical timeout but lost the tempo afterwards. They remained close to Russian score but could
not surpass it. Dinamo Kazan improved to 2-0 in the game after winning second set in row.
Third set was once again the one-sided affair, where visiting team kept the operations well under hand. They did not allow Dresdner to take lead for a single time and finished third set with final score of 25-13.
The German mentor, Alexander Waibl, stated, “We definitely wanted to play better than we did tonight. But Dinamo was really too strong for us.”
