Russian Division 1: FC Dinamo St Peters vs. Avangard - Full Time Report
The Russian Division was in full bloom as local favourites FC Dinamo St. Peters were looking to take on Avangard. The Russian Division 1 was already nearing a close as both the teams playing in tonight’s game were in the drop zone and were in threatening positions. Both the teams went into the game knowing that it was a must-win scenario for them if they wanted to stay in the first division of Russian football for the coming season.
The match was being played at St. Petersburg's home crowd in front of a packed stadium, filled with fans who were screaming at the top of their lungs to urge their team to go on and claim all three points. However, Avangard weren't going to just sit around and let that happen.
As the match kicked off, both teams looked to go toe to toe from the get go. However, it was the home team that got the better of their opponents as they started knocking the ball back and forth and started to look like they were going to break the deadlock.
That is just what the home team did: on the tenth minute, Michail Machagonov had the ball in the back of the visitors’ net and gave the home team the early advantage.
The match then carried out in similar style; however, neither of the two teams looked to have the final touch that was needed in front of the goal to get another goal recorded on the scoreboard.
The match went into the half-time break with the scorecard reading one goal to nil in favour of St Petersburg.
The second half began in almost the same manner as the first. The home team were on top of things with Avangard trying to contain them from scoring another goal.
However, as the match progressed, the away team started building on their confidence and started seeing much more possession of the ball. They were now looking the more threatening of the two sides, but their late surge of attacks didn't seem to threaten the St Petersburg team. The team looked more than content with their one goal advantage.
The match soon ended with the score being the same as it was at the half-time break: one goal to nil in favour of the home team. As an end result of the match, St Petersburg saw themselves climb to the seventeenth position in the Russian league, whereas Avangard were sitting just one position above the bottom at number nineteen. However, there are only three points separating the two teams at this point in the league, and if either one of the teams slips up in the coming weeks, then either one of them could be relegated at the end of this season.
