In what can only be good news for Serbia in their first round Fed Cup 2010 tie, their opponents have announced a team without many of the nation’s leading lights. The Russian squad does not include world No. 2 Dinara Safina (whose back problems returned during the Australian Open) or other top ten players Svetlana Kuznetsova, Elena Dementieva and Vera Zvonareva. Australian Open 2010 quarter-finalist Nadia Petrova is also not among the line-up, which is also missing Maria Sharapova. So, who has been named to play? Alisa Kleybanova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Vera Dushevina and Ekaterina Makarova are the players named in the squad.
