Russian Greek to make his debut for Gennadi Dorochenko in the Blue Grass Stakes
The 3-year-old Marchfore Thoroughbreds owned colt, Adirondack King, is to bypass the Grade 1, $750,000 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes and opt for the Grade 2 Jerome Handicap set to go underway on 21 April, 2012, at Aqueduct race course over a mile.
“We are going to pass,” said Adirondack King’s trainer, John Servis. “I don’t think he is crazy about the track and we are going to look for a better spot.”
“The Jerome is not coming up that tough and we may try that,” Servis said.
On the other hand, the 3-year-old Kenneth McPeek trained colt, Golden Ticket, is also going to look beyond the Blue Grass Stakes for a better spot. The Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby runner up to Prospective could be pointed toward the Grade 3 Coolmore Lexington Stakes over at Keeneland’s synthetic surface over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on 21 April, 2012.
While these colts are bypassing the Blue Grass Stakes, Owner Ken Ramsey who had Politicallycorrect representing him in the $750,000 event has another contender, the Michael Maker trained colt Gung Ho, who is coming off a second place finish in the Rushaway Stakes at Turfway Park to winner Flashy Dresser on 24 March, 2012.
Edgar Prado will take the mount on Gung Ho said trainer Michael Maker, and talking about jockeys, Miguel Mena has decided to ride, Russian Greek, for trainer Gennadi Dorochenko, and Russian Greek will be making his debut for trainer Dorochenko under the banner of Olympia Star Inc.
Dorochenko got Russian Greek, after the colt’s eight place finish in the Grade 3 Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes under jockey Corey Nakatani at Turfway Park.
“There was no money in California (where Russian Greek was trained by Jerry Hollendorfer) and no races to run in and that is why we brought him here,” said Dorochenko.
Russian Greek trained ahead of the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes, when Dorochenko was aboard Russian Greek, as he jogged the colt for a mile.
The trainer will be represented by the Louisiana Derby 109 to 1 shot winner, Hero of Order, who is also pointed toward the Blue Grass Stakes.
