Russian Lokomotiv Novosibirsk determined to keep the winning streak – Men’s Volleyball
Lokomotiv Novosibirsk is the men’s volleyball club team from Russia, which has a winning streak of four matches in the league round of 2012 CEV Champions League.
Following the loss of opening match in the preliminaries, the Russian hotshots worked out incredible performance and scored four victories in a row. The team is scheduled to return to action in the last match of league round on Wednesday, January 18. They
will be challenged by top team of Pool E, the Italian Lube Banca Marche Macerata.
Both teams have already qualified for the next round of the tournament. Russian Lokomotiv Novosibirsk qualified for the Playoffs 12 of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League this past week after beating Austrian Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK in a five-set thriller.
On the other hand, Italian Macerata downed Fenerbahce of Turkey and clawed its way to the Playoffs 12. Hence, both teams will be playing without any pressure of disqualification. The City of Novosibirsk is set to host the cracking action in the next match
and the Russians are determined to use the home advantage to beat their opponents.
The Russian Head Coach Andrei Voronkov commented ahead of the match. He stated, “This match won’t be as difficult as the one we played in Italy some weeks ago as we are at home this time and our fans will support us. We have good chances to finish first
in our Pool even though Lube Banca Marche recently downed Fenerbahce in straight sets. We also did the same, even twice, so I am pretty confident before this match.”
The Russian team will have certain advantages in the next match. Primarily, they will play the match on their home soil and they will be equipped with stupendous emotional support of local fans.
Moreover, the boys around Head Coach Andrei Voronkov have performed consistently well in the last four matches. They have built a winning streak of 4-0 and also they have done well in the Russian National League. The team is currently enjoying a top form
and has improved a lot since it previous defeat from Macerata. They are truly up for redemption in the next match.
Italian club Macerata, on the other hand, is the top team in Pool E. They have appeared in five matches so far and have a similar record of 4-1. However, Macerata climbed up the top slot on account of slightly better win/loss ratio.
Macerata will have to cope with the double challenge in the match. In the first place, they will have to overcome the pressure of strange audience and secondly they will be required to showcase a flawless performance against home team, in order to win.
Considering the facts involved in the match, it is easy to form a judgement that Russian team will win the match.
Nevertheless, it is still a mystery that will be disclosed tomorrow when both teams will take centre stage. Let’s wish may the best team win the match.
