Rubin Kazan denied CSKA Moscow of securing UEFA Champions League progression this season after defeating the Moscow-based club 3-1 at Tsentralnyi stadion on Sunday.
The hosts came from behind to score three goals during the second-half after the Armeytsy took the lead through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Keisuke-Honda-c20516.
In aftermath of the outcome, Roman Sharonov has hailed his side’s impressive performance against the Red-blues. He admitted that the Kazan-based club deserved to claim all three points after putting in a fine performance
at their home.
Sharonov, who joined the Russian outfit from Shinnik Yaroslavl in 2007, credited the entire squad after winning the last match of the Russian Premier League campaign, and dedicated the win to their fans. The former Terek
Grozny player urged his side to repeat such performances next season.
Rubin played the last league match on the back of a 1-0 win against Dynamo Moscow at Yekaterinburg stadium. Roman Eremenko’s second-half goal was enough to secure them their first ever Russian Cup, since the inception of
Russian top division.
The Tatary will play in the UEFA Europa League next season after winning the cup tournament. Sharonov expressed his delight after winning the tournament and assured the fans of more trophies in the near future.
“CSKA are a very good team but we deserved to win against them. We did not want to prove anything. So, we acted like usual. We wanted to give a terrific performance in front of our fans. So, we came to the field and gave
the best shot. We did not want to upset them in the last match.”
“We deserved to get an automatic Europa League qualification after winning the Russian cup. We would have secured fourth or fifth place to play in Europe next season but we concentrated on winning the cup.” The Marbella Cup
winner was quoted as saying.
Asked whether Rubin wanted Spartak Moscow to secure the silver meal this season, Sharonov denied such reports, conceding that the Kamni played their own game and has not given preference to any other club.
