Russian World Cup 2018 campaign: Ready to Inspire
Russia 2018 bid is tempting and is the only life time opportunity to inspire Eastern Europe as a host country from former Soviet bloc. The bidding process started in March 2009, eleven bids from thirteen countries were received where one bid was withdrawn
and one was rejected by governing body, FIFA. The withdrawal of European countries bids for 2018 resulted into their exclusion from 2022 world cup bid. Russia was in competition with alluring England 2018 bid, joint bid from Netherland /Belgium and Spain /Portugal.
The bidding process became controversial after the disclosure of two FIFA official’s potential acceptance of money in exchange for votes. Moreover, Russia also commented ruthlessly on rival bidders while the complaint was withdrawn after Russian official’s
apology.
Russia is an exciting mixture of diverse and mysterious rituals, bid committee kept the importance of Russian historical cities so as to provide a classic experience to the visitors. They introduced a multi cluster nation having 11 time zones and 180 nationalities
and a true mosaic of cultures. The people and landscapes is what make Russia a dynamic choice for world cup 2018 thereby chopping up 5 clusters into 13 main locations. The nation offers incomparably dynamic settings for FIFA world cup with 16 football stadiums
in 13 main cities. Each city depicts its unique culture and geography. Northern Cluster represents the cities of Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg, Central Cluster representing Moscow, Volga Cluster representing Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Yaroslavl, Samara, Volgograd
and Saransk. Southern Cluster is divided into three cities i.e. Krasnodar, Rostov On Don and Sochi. Ural Cluster representing Yekaterinburg.
Currently Russia doesn’t have any stadium with 80,000 capacity. The bid also proposed for an expansion to Luzhniki stadium in Moscow which is a UEFA Elite stadium already. The seating capacity would be increased from slightly over 78,000 to 89,000. Russia
also hope to construct five stadiums to host world cup matches ready by 2013, one stadium in each St. Petersburg, Sochi and Kazan and two in Moscow. Star goal keeper and the Ambassador of Russia 2018 /2022 Rinat Dasaev, nicknamed ‘Iron Curtain’ said, “I
participated in three world cup events, each of them special to my heart, different to watch but I always dreamt of World Cup coming to Russia.”
Russian national football team captain Andrei Arshavin said, “I love playing football, it has changed my course of life ever since I first kicked the ball. We never hosted world cup, but this time it would open new minds and hearts. It would be a new
chapter for FIFA world cup history itself. Twenty years after Soviet Union ceased, we are in a process of making New Russia.”
