  1. Revolutionary is right.. I would add that Georgia tried to restore order by destroying houses and hospitals and killing 2000 Ossetians and 10 peacekeepers.

  2. its a small place called south ossettia something like that

  3. Georgia took military action against separists in the south ossettia region russia said they were going to protect russian citizens since alot of the population there are considered russian citizens bad mistake by georgia now it's just being taken a little too far by russia.

  4. Technically this conflict is very old, dated to USSR break out, South Ossetia was an autonomy region inside Georgian Socialistic Republic, and in 1989 they decided to be an autonomy republic and declared independence in 1990. De Facto, south Ossetia is independent country, but not recognized.

In 1992 there was first major conflict between South Ossetia and Georgia, that resulted in seize fire and peacekeeping forces from Russia, Ossetia and Georgia to be stationed in the region.

In 2004 there was another small conflict with Georgia.

During beginning of the August 2008 there were sporadic firefights between Georgian and Ossetian forces, which intensified on August 8 with massive artillery strike on capital of Tskhinvali that destroyed the city and resulted in massive lost of life, mostly civilians. Georgian forces advanced into the South Ossetia,  that claimed to be “Operation for restoring constitutional order”, there was artillery strike on Russian peacekeepers barracks as well as direct firefights between Russia peacekeepers and Georgian forces, resulting in 10 dead Russian peacekeepers.

Russian forces advanced to the region 16 hours after the invasion, start fighting Georgians and pushing them out of Ossetia.

  5. Georgia attacked one of the small republics in the region named Osetia. Russia had its peacekeeping forces in the region, and many of them were killed by the Georgians.

  6. Georgians trying to reestablish order in the breakaway Georgian province of South Ossettia. Russians supported this province's independence and attacked Georgian troops in South Ossettia. They continued to push through to "teach the Georgians a lesson"
