Russian duos dominate the pool play of U 18 Beach Volleyball Championship – Volleyball News
The 2012 CEV U 18 Boys Beach Volleyball European Championship started off on Thursday, July 5 in Brno, Czech Republic.
Powerhouse Russia sent two pairs in the competition. Perebeinos-Danilov and Margiev-Velichko embarked on the adventure and demonstrated a spectacular performance in the pool-play of the tournament.
The duo of Perebeinos and Danilov opened the tournament alongside teams from Latvia, hosts Czech Republic, and Finland in Pool A. The Russian hotshots appeared in a total of three preliminary matches and finished with impeccable 3-0 record.
Russian pair was challenged by home duo of Dzavoronok and Licek in the first match on Thursday. The hosts had the competitive edge of playing at home, but nothing worked in their favour. Russians swept their rivals with a skilful play and seized 2-0 (21-14,
21-19) victory in 39 minutes.
Following a convincing start to the campaign, the Russian tandem took on Lancmanis-Raimonds from Latvia in the second match of the day-1. It was the first match for 12th-seeded Latvian duo, but it proved to be a bitter experience for the team.
Charged-up Perebeinos-Danilov showed no mercy and edged out Latvian counterparts in straight sets. The match ended with final score of 0-2 (16-21, 15-21), whereas Latvia suffered the damage.
Perebeinos and Danilov closed the opening day without any loss and earned 2-0 record. In the next run, they came across Finland’s Ropponen and Mäntylä in the third match on Friday. The Russians maintained their dominance and bagged another 2-0 victory. They
claimed both sets with identical score of 21-9 and comfortably dismissed the Finnish pair.
Second team from Russia that consisted of Margiev and Velichko played in Pool C. They were joined by duos from Norway, Austria, and Slovenia. According to the set formula of the competition, Margiev-Velichko also appeared in three pool-play matches on Thursday
and Friday. In the first two matches on day-1 of the 2012 CEV U 18 Beach Volleyball European Championship, Russian duo was challenged by two Slovenian pairs.
Russian hosts defeated Slovenia’s Aberger-Moser in the first match of the tournament and did the same treatment to Vidmar-Drobnic in the second match on Friday. They finished both matches in straight sets and earned absolute success. With two victories in
the hand, Russia’s Margiev-Velichko went against Huus-Sørum of Norway in the third match on Friday. The match ended in two sets, while Russian pair extended its winning streak to 3-0 in the tournament.
Russians are the pre-favourites of the competition. They are expected to grab more success in the coming matches. Check back for more updates and news.
