Russian handball team dominates Group B at 2011 Handball Championship – Handball News
The Russian women’s handball team is having an excellent run with the ball in Brazil. They are taking part in the 2011 World Women’s Handball Championship. Placed in the Group B of the tournament, the Russian handball team is yet
undefeated in this year’s championships.
They started their campaign in the 2011 handball championship by a win over South Korea on December 3, 2011, the second day of the tournament. They defeated the South Korean handball team 39-24 and had an impressive win. The next
day, the Russian team met Spain on December 4, 2011. The Spanish handball team were also left speechless in front of the Russian attack. Spain was edging to a win but the Russian handball player’s defence was too much for the Spaniard women handball players.
Russia defeated Spain 28-22.
Their third match was on December 6, 2011 when they faced Australia. The national handball team of Australia was destroyed by the Russian players. Russia dominated the match from the beginning and kept on scoring against the Australians.
The Russian players won the match with a very comprehensive win by 45-8 over Australia. This match was the moment in the tournament when the Group B teams would have thought Russia to be a strong contender for the 2011 championships.
Russia played their fourth match of the competition on December 7, 2011 against the Netherlands. The women’s handball team from the Netherlands was going on a decent pace but the Russians were again showing their dominant side.
For Russia the players who have performed well in the tournament so far include Irina Yuryevna Bliznova, Tatiana Khmyrova, Olga Sergeyevna Levina and Liudmila Bodnieva. They all scored multiple goals in the matches giving Russia a lead in all the matches they
played.
At the moment, the Group B is led by Russia. They have played four matches at the 2011 World Women’s Handball Championship. They have scored 147 goals in the tournament so far and have conceded only 80 goals, giving then a goal
difference of positive 67. They have eight points, giving them a huge edge in the tournament. The second team in the group closest to Russia is Spain with six points.
