There was someone at my school who said that 5 or 6 years ago his family took a vacation to Karutha, a former colony of the Soviet Union in the Caribbean. He said that the people were mostly a mix of Russian and Caribbean (including native and African), although most spoke Russian. He said that Karutha was how the Cuban missile crisis happpened. He said that Karutha got covered by water a couple years ago. Is any of this true? Is Karutha real? Did it sink? I couldn't find any of this info on the computer. When I googled Karutha it was some Indian film. I've never heard of this and I don't think that Russia has ever had any islands, but I could be wrong. This kid also said that the Beatles wrote the original version of the Hannah Montana song "Best of Both Worlds".

  4. HA HA HA! You are having your leg pulled.........Karutha never existed.

Now, CUBA was essentially a colony of Russia for 30 plus years; Cuba had hundreds if not thousands of Russian engineers and army troops stationed there, running the Cuban Air Force , training it's army for the Cuban expeditions to Africa and Grenade, running the school system;hundreds of Soviet secret police showing the Cubans how to suppress dissent; dozens of "advisers" who told the Cuban government how and what and when to do things. there were probably hundreds of Russians who fathered children with Cuban girls and maybe even a few who married them.

The Russian presence ended when the Soviet Union fell in !989.
