Russian team beats Canadian team in a thrilling encounter of Russia-Canada Hockey Challenge Series
Team Russia was able to beat Team Canada in a very well contested game which was played between both sides which was played on Monday at Halifax, Nova Scotia. Russian team won it by just one goal by the score of 6-5. They lead the series 2-1 now.
Four goals were scored in the first period, unlike first two games in which no goals were scored in the first round. Russian team took the lead early on and scored twice but Canadian team levelled it by scoring two goals, first through Ryan Murphy, the defenseman,
who is a Carolina Hurricanes’ prospect and second one through Ryan Murray, the second overall pick in the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) draft by Columbus Blue Jackets.
Russia again took a two goal lead in the second period but Canada once again fought back hard and levelled it 4-4. This time goals came from Sean Monahan, the 17-year-old centre and Charles Hudon of Montreal Canadiens.
Russia again took a lead in the third period through Anoton Slepyshev but Canada equalised it for the third time when Jonathan Huberdeau of Florida Panthers scored in the power play. The deciding game came in the 14th minute when Andrei Sigarev
of Russia scored the winner and then Russian team defended very well to avoid another equaliser.
While talking to Halifax Chronicle Herald, Monahan told about his feelings when they levelled it and the effort they made to win it as he said,
"Playing from behind is not the greatest feeling but it makes you play that much harder. The effort was there. But we weren’t capitalizing on all of the chances that we had. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get that last one."
Ryan Murphy talked about the fatigue and exhaustion both teams had to face and did not make any excuses as he told a newspaper,
"We like to eliminate excuses. We came in a couple of days early and they had to travel as well. It’s not that any team had an advantage or disadvantage. Both teams are equally fatigued or equally rested. There’s no advantage there."
The fourth and last game will also be played in Halifax on Tuesday.
