Russian women avenge the Poles in league round – Volleyball Europe
The fifth leg of the 2012 CEV Champions League brought the two archrivals, Dinamo Moscow and Bank BPS Fakro Muszyna, in an intense fight on the volleyball court.
Russia’s Dinamo Moscow travelled the city of Muszyna in Poland, in order to take revenge from the hosts. Despite having the competitive edge of home supporters and familiar conditions, the Muszyna dropped the decision after a tiring 4-set match. Dinamo displayed
incredible effort and won the match, 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18).
Previously, the two teams had a meeting in the second leg of the preliminaries when Polish team defeated the Russian in their home city Moscow. Nevertheless, Dinamo treated Muszyna in the same manner and earned victory in the next match. Opposite Nataliya
Goncharova, wing-spiker Eva Yaneva, and Morozova did a great job and led Russia to overall third victory in the Champions League Prelims.
Dinamo Moscow scored the first two points of the match, while Muszyna was yet to be onboard. Gradually, Polish players settled down in their positions and hit back aggressively. They added quick points and went up on the scoreboard. They took the score to
12-7 and forced Dinamo to call the timeout. The timeout proved to be no help for Russian as they trailed behind.
It seemed as if Poland was sure to win the set but situation dramatically changed near the end of first set. Dinamo came up with clever attacks and picked up lead at 23-22. Afterwards, they did not allow Muszyna to score any points and claimed first-set
win, 25-22. The performance of the Polish girls was encouraging in all fundamentals but things drastically changed after the second mandatory stop as Dinamo displayed its class and clipped the set with a margin of three points.
The visiting team from Russia dominated the scene also in next set (25-19) before MUSZYNA got back on track in set 3 and after initially chasing the rivals, the home heroines went for 2-1.
However, Dinamo staged better game in fourth set and clinched success by winning fourth set.
Russian Angelina Grün commented, “After a poor start we displayed some good reception and I am delighted with the win. The start was difficult because the sports hall here is really small and the ball moves fast. I think MUSZYNA got the third set mainly
via the good serving of Werblinska and Rourke.”
The Head Coach of Team France, Bogdan Serwinski gave his analysis of the match.
He said, “I think the first set was the crucial moment of the game, after losing there a set we had nearly won we did not recover, also mentally. In my opinion this is quite a common situation in this sport.”
