  1. Hi!  My Gawd, that is some rust you got there!  It's a shame that Ford did such a pants job at rust-proofing to begin with, and I think it will take huge commitment and dedication to save that car.  I have an '89 Mercedes 190E, and if you look underneath, or anywhere, I could challenge you to find a postage-stamp size piece of rust.  You pay your money, you take..

    Anyway...

You need to get rust off large underfloor areas, fighting gravity as you do so.  (You need De-Ox Gel.)  Having removed the rust, next...

You also need a ************ rust-inhibiting primer which doesn't just sit ON the metal, but reacts its' way INTO the metal.  (You need a few aerosols of EtchWeld primer, which as the name suggests, can be welded-through.)  This is a thin primer, you now need to get a thick rust-inhibiting coat of paint on...

You need Electrox, which is a very Zinc-rich thick paint which can be applied by aerosol, but I'd recommend brushing it on in this case.

I would then apply a thick underseal, like you had on, knowing that it will be protecting good metal!

For protection inside the bottoms of doors and sill-cavities, you need some Dynax S50, which comes pout of an aerosol, through a flexi-lance, to inject all those areas you can't get into otherwise.

You can buy all of these products from the maker, BiltHamber, at www.bilthamber.com

No, I don't work for them, I recommend them though.  I've used some of their products, and they are top-notch.  I read Practical Classics magazine, which tests rust-inhibitors, primers and treatments, and ALWAYS gives them top-marks for a great product.  You can read their glowing reviews on the bilt-hamber website.

Peter Hamber has a Holy Crusade going against rust!  his products really do work.

If you have the commitment not to walk away, you can repair that car.  It will cost rather over a hundred quid for all you need, plus postage, but if you spend less anywhere else, you will not get the results you want.  You have to treat rust like mould in the back of your fridge... let one tiny piece live, and it will get everywhere.

It is bad, but I have seen worse live again after repair.

    Good luck!

P.S.  Don't waste a penny on Jenolite from Halfords, it is totally useless.  You allegedly clean off the rust (it doesn't) and then rinse it off?  You NEVER let water near clean metal, you get RUST!!  Been there, tried Jenolite, it was F****** useless!

  2. You can buy rust remover gel in Halfords. Looks like you will need quite a bit. Also Jenolite liquid works well where you can use it. Both are acids so mind those eyes. Scrape, wire brush, treat with rust remover, rinse off, paint with Hammerite/Underseal. All good fun. Then flog the car as it looks like a mot failure in the making. I know they are quick cars, but it ain't worth the hassle in my view.

  3. well, removing all that rust is gonna be a big pain in the @$$. if you really want to, theres a thing you can buy called Rust-Mort by SEM.

    http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/sem69508....

it converts rust to something like primer, and you can sand it and paint over it. it stops rust, and converts all existing rust. i used it on my truck and im happy with the results. u can probably get it at a Napa or something. GOOD LUCK!

  4. My son who is a body repair tech and has an mot testers ticket had a look at the pictures and said the car is not worth repairing as what you can see is bad, what you cannot see will be worse. Strip it for parts and find a rust free high miler and switch all the bits.  IF you can find a rust free one, which is not too likely but not impossible.

  5. Hi, please do not take offence, Scrap it, Sell the parts on EBay & put you money into a fresh car, If the body looks like that now what is it going to look like in another year, You would be as well getting a new Car, Sorry fo the comment but I am trying to save you money.

  6. I would try that  stop rust paint  that  reactes and turns the steel back into  a bell metal structure again

available at  HALFRAUDS  at a PRICE ££   !!

Once rust is in,   its needs to be cut out and rewelded with new ......

  7. See a body shop for a repair estimate. You have a serious problem that will require some extensive repair.
