Rusted car frame! help!!?

Question

hi guys. i just bought a 99 mustang that was from florida and the whole frame of the car is rusted. is there anything i can do to prevent any more rust or should i take it back and get a differnt car? i would like to avoid taking it back b\c it is a freaking amazing good looking car.

If you have the time and it is a weekend car, I would remove the body from the frame and get it sandblasted and then a coat of high grade primer then get it either powdercoated or painted professionally. It may not be the way most people take since it is expensive but your underbody will be brand new and you wont have to worry about it again.

I more then likely has flood damage and if that is the case then soon the entire electrical system will fail. I would take it back and get a different car if you don't want to deal with problems. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Take it back. If frame is no good car is no good

If it's surface rust it's no big deal. If it's deep pitted rust take it back. Any car from up north has some rust on the frame due to salt used on the roads in the winter.

sandblast the frame then apply KBS RustSeal for permanent protection against rust.

I like Johnny C's advice.  Can you take it back though?  Like a pair of socks from Walmart?!

If it is a flood car, you'll have more problems than rust I believe.

sounds like a flood car or on e transplanted from  up north.best thing get a car-fax report  fast if it is a flood car take it back it will be nothing but problems.

Mustangs don't have a frame as such. They have front and rear subframes which are tied together by the floor pans. Typical "unibody" construction. If you're seeing massive rust underneath and have the option of taking it back then do so. Repairing the rust is expensive and time consuming. If the floor pans are weakened then the structural integrity is also weakened.
