Rustic furniture distress?

I want to but my daughter this beautiful rustic armoire for her t.v and stuff. I can buy it unfinished for $100 less than the one i like. It is the exact same thing but it is just the unfinished look. I want it to be a distressed white color. What is the best way to do this or should i just buy the one finished how i want?

If you time has any value, spent $100 more.  You'll have half that in materials.  Further, what you see is what you get.  If you go on your own, you may not end up where you want.
