Rustic orange paint in my living room. I want to give the room a slight tropical touch plz help?

The paint is a beautiful darkish orange with a candle light effect (ralph lauren's) There are some nice antique lamps on the walls and a glass tv stand.We have to buy sofa, bar stools, side tables and maybe 2 more lamps.

I want to know if I can give it a nice tropical touch by adding some specific furniture or color. The problem is I dont want to go all out with the theme. The actual look of the room should ideally be royalish, antique and traditional and not breezy and tropical because of the paint color, fixtures etc used.

Please give me some good advice

I work with La-Z-Boy and I agree you need to stick with furniture that is antique-ish and traditional.  How about Cambridge http://www.la-z-boy.com/furniture/produc... ? It's a chair with wooden trim that comes in a great brown leather.  An easy way to incorporate your tropical touch would be adding a tropical throw pillow onto this classic looking chair - that way if you ever change the décor, the chair will still be in style.   The La-Z-Boy Web site http://www.la-z-boy.com/  also has other options for you to look at.  Good luck!

i just moved back to the states from hawaii and some of the best decors i have seen were vintage hawaiian with a modern twist. by using some bamboo rugs and various hawaiian decor you can make it elegant and airy. check out some old photos of royal hawaiian homes and the first hotels-those are good starts. the latest hawaiian hotels in oahu and maui were contempary hawaiian and modern. by having one major tropical piece you would not overwhelm the room. there was a peice i saw at the queens summer cottage in oahu and at Iolani palace that is both interesting and beautiful.

I sounds like you should go with a British Colonial style which is all about refined elegance. Too tropical would be very whimisical and too "Key West". British Colonial style emphasizes elegance and adventure by combining traditional British style with exotic tropical elements. The use of bamboo, rattan and palms coupled with rich woods, woven textures, and earthy hues give this home a comfortable yet sophisticated elegance.  You can do some searches for that style on the internet to get some images and some ideas of how to add that look to your space.
