Rustys Bar bolts through in the William Hill Bet Stakes at Newcastle
Rustys Bar grabbed the first position by beating the two joint favourite runners in the Grade A1 William Hill Hotbox Bet Stakes, held at Newcastle on January 11. The race was contested over a distance of 480 metres.
The debonair ran against Skywalker Lily, Balbec Jake, Darfin Jake, Gracefayeluke and Bandicoot Bonnie.
It was an astounding event as neither of the favourites could manage to finish first, while a non-favourite runner carried all the way.
As the whistle blew, Rustys Bar and Skywalker Lily rushed ahead with sheer force, running neck to neck, stirring thrill in the race.
This nail-biting competition continued till the end.
When the two hounds were just a step away from the finish line, nobody could guess who would win. However, luck smiled on Rustys Bar, and he finished first with a slight margin of just 0.1 seconds.
As the dog won, the whole stadium echoed with shouts and slogans, as it was an unbelievable triumph.
R Kirk’s trainee took 29.47 seconds to complete the distance, and it was just the fourth race the dog was running in, starting his career on November 17, 2011.
The son of Ballymac Kewell was whelped in October 2008.
Kirk was happy with what his dog accomplished, despite being novice to the game, predicting a promising future for him.
Skywalker Lily, unfortunately, narrowly failed to earn the top spot, finishing second.
The black b***h started very well, after breaking from trap 4. She tried her utmost to browbeat Rustys Bar, and clinch the first position, but it was all in vain.
Trained by J J Fenwick, she ended up with this position for the third time in her career, but made the bookies realise that she can upset anyone at any time.
The daughter of Nifty Princess, was whelped in June 2009.
The third position went to Balbec Jake, who was a joint favourite with a starting price of 3 to 1, along with Darfin Jake.
The black dog exhibited a clear run after breaking from trap 3, and reached the finish line in 29.52 seconds, trailing by ½ a length.
Whelped in September 2009, the son of Ballymac Maeve is trained by J Wright.
At the end of the race, Rustys Bar was presented with the cash prize of £118, while each of the other racers earned £20.
