Ruta Meilutyte captures Women’s 100m breaststroke gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania captured gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on foremost day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday, October 13.
The Lithuanian swimmer faced tough contest from Jennie Johansson of Sweden but with her alluring efforts, she managed to cruise her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
With her astonishing pace, Meilutyte remained just an arm-stroke ahead of her toughest challenger and touched the wall for gold medal by producing a wonderful time of 1 minute and 05.02 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Johansson, who was 0.37 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 05.39 seconds.
Johansson was traced by Rie Kaneto of Japan, who remained 0.05 seconds slower from upsetting her preceding swimmer and emerged on the finishing end as third position holder with timing of 1 minute and 05.44 seconds.
Kaneto was traced by Jessica Hardy of USA, who remained 0.06 seconds slower from securing her spot on the podium and settled as fourth fastest swimmer with a timing of 1 minute and 05.50 seconds.
Hardy was trailed by Mio Motegi of Japan, who stayed 0.27 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall for fifth position with an effort of 1 minute and 05.77 seconds.
Motegi was chased by Jenna Laukkanen of Finland, who remained one and a half body length behind and occupied sixth position of the race with a timing of 1 minute and 07.19 seconds.
Laukkanen was traced by Joline Hostman of Sweden, who suffered a loss of 1.01 seconds from her foregoing finisher and finished seventh in the race by clocking a time of 1 minute and 08.20 seconds.
Hostman was trailed by Sophie Allen of Great Britain, who was unable to surpass any of her challengers and ended her race in eighth place by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 08.44 seconds.
In addition, Meilutyte was overjoyed with her title claiming effort in the 100m discipline and raked medal after the race.
