Ruta Meilutyte occupies Women’s 100m breaststroke gold - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania occupied gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on fourth day of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Saturday, December 15.
The Lithuanian swimmer, who broke the record of 50m breaststroke earlier at the championship, went on a rampage in the playoff of the 100m discipline and secured the crown.
She enjoyed an advantage of just one arm-stroke over her closest swimmer and tapped the wall for the title with the timing of 1 minute and 03.52 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Alia Atkinson of Jamaica, who remained 0.28 seconds apart and touched the wall for silver medal by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 03.80 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Rikke Moeller Pedersen of Denmark, who suffered a loss of 0.25 seconds from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 04.05 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Sarah Katsoulis of Australia, who was 0.96 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end by posting an effort of 1 minute and 05.01 seconds.
Katsoulis was chased by Jessica Hardy of USA, who was 0.07 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 05.08 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth position of the race was secured by Jennie Johansson of Sweden, who was half a body length behind and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 05.62 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Rebecca Ejdervik of Sweden, who was 0.45 seconds slower and posted a time of 1 minute and 06.07 seconds.
Last position of the race was obtained by Petra Chocova of Czech Republic, who was 0.05 seconds apart and posted an effort of 1 minute and 06.12 seconds.
In addition, Meilutyte received massive admiration from the audience for her scintillating efforts in the race and articulated that she would try her level best to improve the world record of the same event in forthcoming events.
