Rutger van Schaardenburg regains overall lead of Laser fleet on Day 3: 2012 Delta Lloyd Regatta
Third day of the 2012 Delta Lloyd Regatta finished after the Laser fleet had a complete proceeding of the day under lower wind conditions. The day began without any wind which was quite troubling for the Laser fleet but this situation did not kill the passion
of the members and they completed the scheduled races on time.
Nederland’s Rutger van Schaardenburg displayed some outclass sailing skills on the Medemblik waters and was able to take back his overall lead over the fleet standings. The Dutch sailor showed his class with some outstanding sailing genius and was able to
claim back his leading podium place.
Schaardenburg had a superb start of the regatta as he cruised himself into the leading podium finish at the conclusion of the first day with the help of a couple of bullets. However, in the third race of Day 1, he finished on 10th podium place but it did
not affect his overall position.
The second day was not so good for him as he clinched a 14th finish to begin the second day proceedings. A lower finish on the second day did bring him down to second position in the fleet standings and his compatriot Roelof Bouwmeester snatched
the lead from him and nudged him one place down at number 2.
Nevertheless, Schaardenburg sprang back with classy sailing genius and clinched two bullets on the third day proceedings to snatch back the overall lead with 19 points.
