Ruud van Nistelrooy finally patches up with Sir Alex Ferguson
Hamburg striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ruud-van-Nistelrooy-c31966 has finally apologized to Sir Alex Ferguson for the manner in which he left Manchester United almost five years ago.
The Dutchman had a much-publicized falling-out with his former boss during his time in the Premier League. In his final months as a Manchester United player, Nistelrooy had a bust up with former teammate http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629 on the
training ground.
His actions forced manager Sir Alex Ferguson to leave the Dutchman out of the starting eleven in the final match of the 2005/06 campaign. Nistelrooy was so incensed by the move that he drove home during the match. As a result,
the incident broke down their relationship beyond repair.
Van Nistelrooy joined Real Madrid in 2006, citing tensions between him and Sir Alex Ferguson as the only reason for his decision to leave Old Trafford.
Now, five years on, the Dutchman has decided to patch things up with his former manager. Nistelrooy has apologized to Sir Alex for his actions during his last days Manchester United. He said that after five years of thinking it
over, it was finally time to set things right.
The Hamburg striker said, “I had been thinking about it (the incident) for a while and talking it through with my wife. Two or three times every year I would think to myself what a shame it was that it had ended like it did with
Ferguson. I wanted to do something about it.”
Van Nistelrooy revealed that he called the United manager to apologise personally. He said, “I rang him and he answered and said: 'OK, fine, go ahead.' I said I wanted to apologize for what had happened and he replied: 'Fine, I
appreciate that, when we meet again it will be OK.' That was great to know."
Nistelrooy is still highly regarded by Manchester United fans for his phenomenal contributions to the club. The striker scored 150 goals in five seasons with the Red Devils, establishing himself as the eighth highest scorer in
their history.
The Dutchman added, “If I encounter Ferguson again – and I really hope that will happen – I will embrace him and then it will all be finished."
