Does anyone know how to adopt a child from Rwanda or where to get more information on it? I know that Rwanda is now allowing international adoption but I cannot really find any information on it. Thank you.

  1. Rwanda actually does allow IA. The rules are very strict though, for instance one parent must be over 35, you have to have been married for 5 years and neither of you can ever have been divorced. They also have a restriction on how many children you can have in the home already, I believe. As far as I know, only one american couple has successfully adopted a child from Rwanda in all of 2007, but there could be others I don't know about. If you are not in the US or Canada, it may be easier for you to adopt. I believe most of the successful Rwandan adoptions are being completed in European countries.

  2. One countries got it right then. If you want to adopt adopt from your own country. How can you help another if you cant help your own.

  3. United States Citizenship and Immigration Services publishes information on intercountry adoption from every country.  Here is the link to the page for adopting from Rwanda: http://www.travel.state.gov/family/adopt...

It doesn't look promising, but should give you more insight to the laws and procedures.  If you aren't adopting from the US, check the citizenship and immigration website for your country.

  4. Why don't you try another country if Rwanda does not allow International adoption.

You can try the neighboring countries like Uganda.
