  1. Rich= Too much fuel in the air/fuel ratio, engine not getting enough air

Take that intake off and put the stock one back on. Rotary engines are picky about their parts. If you want something that works and is designed to meet the needs of a rotary, stick with Mazdaspeed or RE-Amemiya

www.rx7store.net is a good starting point to look for a new intake for your car. And be sure to ask your fellow owners at www.rx8club.com

  2. What kind of intake was it?  New cars are very picky about the intake systems.  If it was a cheap or no name intake chances are they didn't do any testing or meaningful engineering on it.  The reason you are getting a check engine light is because the intake is not flowing the right amount of air and this is confusing the computer.  Chances are the diameter of the mass air flow housing is too large or too small.  If it is running too rich than the diameter is probably too small making the mass air flow sensor think there is more air entering the engine then there should be.  It will then increase the amount of gas that it feeds the engine.  This isn't really dangerous to your engine like running it lean would be, but it means that the intake is not improving your performance and you are wasting gas.  I would go back to the stock intake or get a good intake like a Mazdaspeed if they make one, an AEM, Cobb, or some other reputable company.
