Ryan Anderson drops 23-15 as Orlando Magic out gun Washington Wizards 102-95- NBA Recap
With 7 players in double figures, Orlando Magic used some 4th quarter muscle to pull away from Washington Wizards, 102-95 at the Verizon Centre on Wednesday night.
Ryan Anderson was on song as he recorded a double-double with 23 points and 15 boards. The performance comes after the sharp shooter had been directed by the coach Stan Van Gundy to be more active with the rebounds.
“Stan likes the way I get offensive rebounds and have that kind of energy on the offensive side," Anderson said. "I haven't been rebounding the ball defensively as well as I can. Tonight was a good opportunity for me to control
that."
Reserve J.J. Redick was in the mix as he came up with 15 points in only 18 minutes on court. Centre Dwight Howard also had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Jason Richardson, Jameer Nelson and Glen Davis netted
12 apiece. Forward Hedo Turkoglu chipped in with 11 points and 7 rebounds as Magic got their 23rd victory of season.
On the other hand, only two players could hit double figure index for Washington. John Wall came up with a phenomenal performance as he recorded a game high 33 points along with Jordan Crawford who had 18 for the Wizards, who have
skidded down to a 6 game losing streak after this fiasco.
Magic opened the game with a 9-2 run and were up by 13-8 early in the first. They then raced away with a 12-0 spurt midway through the quarter to take a 25-8 lead. In the passage that followed though, the Magic could add only two
more points as the Wizards capped the frame with a 7-0 run to make 27-18.
Davis opened the 2nd frame with a jumper that was followed by 3 freebies as Orlando stretched their score to 32 while a layup from Evans brought up the 20th point for the Wizards. The Magic were up by 37-23
but Washington shaved off the deficit with a huge 15-3 run that brought the scores close at 40-38.
Turkoglu drilled a jumper on the next possession and then found Nelson beyond the arc for a three as the Magic headed to the locker room with a 46-41 lead.
Wizards came strongly at the Magic in the 3rd period, as they pulled off a 10-0 run and turned things around into their favour with 51-46 lead. However, with 06:47 in hand, Magic tied the score at 53 each. Washington
reclaimed their lead with another 7-0 run and placed themselves at 60-53.
Nelson’s 3 pointer instigated a 15-7 run for Magic and with this spurt they took a 68-67 lead. The teams entered the last quarter with Orlando holding on to a 71-70 advantage.
Orlando started the 4th with a bang, scoring two treys in an 8 point unanswered run, but were then hit by a John Wall special. Wall scored the first 10 points in a 13-4 run as the Wizards tied the score at 83 a piece
with 6:57 to go.
Nelson and Anderson hit back to back 3-pointers to push Magic ahead at 89-83 and Howard did some hoop and harm to stretch the margin further to 92-85.
Magic never looked back after that and rolled onto an important win on the road. They take on the league leading Oklahoma City Thunder tonight.
