The Football Association is reported to be looking into whether or not to take any action against Liverpool’s Dutch forward, Ryan Babel.
This news came after the forward was caught to have criticised Howard Webb on his Twitter account.
Following Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup, the player went on to post a picture of the referee wearing a Manchester United jersey. He did that because of the dubious penalty that the match referee awarded to United. Because of that
penalty, Manchester United won the match.
What made the penalty all the worse was the fact that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Carrick-c25282 in the first half.
Keeping the referee’s decisions in his mind and taking the outcome of the game to his heart, the player went on to do what almost anybody would have done.
On his Twitter account, he said, “And they call him one of the best referees? That's a joke. SMH (shaking my head).”
However, after realising his mistake, he went on to apologise for his actions later on and stated, “My apology if they take my posted pic seriously. This is just an emotional reaction after losing an important game… Sorry Howard Webb.”
But it now seems like the player’s heartfelt apologies aren’t going to quite cut it for the FA, who are going to look into the matter. If they do happen to find the player guilty, then he would be penalised with a hefty fine.
This leads us to question as to just what the FA expects of footballers, because at the end of the day, they too are humans and as a result, should be allowed to express themselves in whatever manner they please.
It remains to be seen what the FA is going to do about the situation, but if they do manage to fine the player, then this act would go down as another fail in their long, illustrious career.
