Ryan Bennett dominates Men’s 100m freestyle - 2011 Scottish Gas National Swimming Open Championships
Ryan Bennett of Preston dominated the Men’s 100m freestyle final on the first day of the 2011 Scottish Gas National Swimming Open Championships.
The championship is a four-day swimming event, where swimmers are provided with a chance to compete with each other in their respective events.
Bennett clinched the title of the event from former national champion and national record holder, Robbie Renwick. He won the gold medal of the event by clocking a stupendous time of 50.60 seconds. His time was 1.07 seconds away from the senior record of
the same event, which was made by Renwick, who clocked a time of 49.53 seconds earlier in 2011.
Renwick failed to overcome Bennett’s furious effort and followed him on the finishing wall for the silver medal, by touching the wall in a time of 50.71 seconds. He was only 0.09 seconds away from third finisher, Richard Shafers, who touched the wall for
bronze medal, by finishing his swim in a time of 50.80 seconds.
Shafers was followed by Rafael Munoz of Spain, who appeared on the finishing wall, by clocking a fourth fastest time of 51.00 seconds. Munoz was only 0.13 seconds away from his closest competitor, Jak Scott of Stirling Swim, who followed Munoz on the finishing
wall, by posting a fifth best time of 51.13 seconds.
The sixth fastest spot was secured by Robert Bale of Carnforth, who stayed only 0.17 seconds away and produced a time of 51.30 seconds. Juan Miguel Rando of Spain completed his swim in the seventh fastest time and touched the finishing wall in a time of
51.98 seconds. Ernesto Crox of Venezuela was the eighth swimmer to appear on the finishing wall, as he clocked a time of 52.01 seconds. Josh Walsh and Allen Lindenberg were the last two finishers of the freestyle race, as they posted a time of 52.35 and 52.78
seconds for the ninth and tenth positions, respectively.
Bennett was delighted with his victory and stressed that he will continue to perform well in future events.
