Ryan Braun’s failed drug test takes a new turn – MLB Update
While the Milwaukee Brewers keep declining to comment, Ryan Braun’s failed drug test took a new turn on Monday, December 19, when a prominent website citing sources who did not want to be named due to the sensitivity of the issue, said the positive test
of the outfielder was mainly due to medication for a private medical issue.
The news had surfaced in the beginning of this month when the Milwaukee Brewers star was reported to have a failed drug test under Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Policy. With this news report out, the outfielder seems to have
retained all the chances to escape the 50-game suspension which will, for sure, take a heavy toll for the player of his calibre.
Like said earlier, the Brewers are consciously trying not to comment on the issue until the three-person jury hears Ryan Braun. The club’s assistant general manager, Gord Ash referred to this point when queried about the matter. “As bizarre as it may sound,
we don't know anything,” Ash said. “Nobody should have known anything at this point.”
One of the reasons why the Brewers are clearly avoiding commenting on the issue is due to the sensitive nature of the problem. Since the matter is undecided and would be under review, any comment to this effect would make an impact on Braun’s case. On the
other hand, David Cornwell, the recently hired Braun attorney, said that the matter is not to be hyped.
“Confidentiality was breached here, and I think we will find -- I fully expect to be able to demonstrate that Ryan did not violate the substance policy of Major League Baseball,” Cornwell told CNN. “And consequently, we shouldn't be dealing with this discussion
at all, but at a minimum, I urge everybody to keep an open mind and give us the chance to make our case in private.”
The emphasis that the Braun’s attorney put underscores the fact that the player, including the team officials, takes the case seriously; and would like every speculation to be shunned by the media so as to have a smooth proceeding of the issue.
