Ryan Braun’s homer helps Milwaukee Brewers defeat Florida Marlins 6-5 – MLB Update
Ryan Braun drove in a late two-run homer in the ninth inning to give Milwaukee Brewers a fascinating 6-5 victory over Florida Marlins at Sun Life Stadium, Miami on Friday, June 3.
Friday’s game was replete with scintillating excitement with a tinge of surprise in its fold until it surfaced in the ninth inning just when the Brewers were going down. The Marlins, who had lost their last three games, hoped to do something different this
time. However, they failed in their attempt.
Marlins’ manager Edwin Rodriguez was not only disappointed but also sad. "It's easy to say the bullpen gave it away but we had plenty of chances to score and we didn't," Rodriguez said.
Brewers had a start that could well be described as aggressive. Prince Fielder drove in a two-run homer in the very first inning when Ricky Nolasco came out to pitch. Gaby Sanchez brought the lead down to 2-1 in the second inning on Randy Wolf’s pitching.
Casey McGehee and Mark Kotsay took the lead up to 4-1 in the third inning in which Nolasco gave up three hits and allowed two runs.
However, the Marlins were not in the game for giving up so easily. Wolf was taken to task in the three-run fourth inning which levelled the score at a time when the Brewers had a comfortable lead. Mike Stanton, Emilio Bonifacio and Chris Coghlan scored a
single each to level the score.
Greg Dobbs gave the Marlins a seemingly solid 5-4 lead in the seventh inning. They had complete grip on the game until the ninth inning when Braun drove in a two-run homer that not only reversed the lead but also gave an edge to Brewers.
Braun who has the phenomenal distinction of having remained three-time All-Star was buoyed by his performance. "Honestly I doubt I have ever hit a pinch-hit home run," said the overly thrilled Ryan. "I haven't pinch hit many times in my life."
"Probably the first time ever in my career I've gotten an at-bat without swinging at all," Braun said. "No batting practice, no flips in the cages, no tee, no nothing. Just kind of went up there, simplified the game, saw the ball, hit the ball."
John Axford successfully defended the score with his rapid pace of pitching and won the game for the Brewers 6-5.
The four-game series’ second encounter will be on Saturday where the Marlins will put all their efforts to break the losing streak.
