Ryan Carter spoils Tampa Bay Lightning's comeback as New Jersey Devils win 4-2 -NHL Match Update
Both goalies faced nearly the same amount of shots but New Jersey’s, Martin Brodeur, remained focus to fall short on only two while Ryan Carter broke the Tampa Bay momentum in the third period to secure the match as the Devils took over the Lightning, 4-2,
Saturday night, November 19, 2011, at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida, United States.
Veteran Tampa Bay goalie, Dwayne Roloson, faced 24 shots, but unlike his counterpart, he fell short on four throughout the 60 minute contest, including a crucial shot in the third and final period.
"It's all about winning games," Brodeur said. "I thought we played an extremely disciplined game. Tough to play a system the way they don't come at you. They just sit back like that, you know? You kind of have a better idea of what Philly went through. When
you see it, it's a lot different, but we stayed with it."
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Devils scored three straight as Dainius Zubrus potted the inaugural 1:09 into the second period followed by Patrik Elias and David Clarkson with two more, both on power play advantages a little over 10 minutes apart
to give the visiting team a commanding lead.
Martin St. Louis and Ryan Shannon scored nearly a minute apart to bring the Tampa Bay Lightning to within one goal of tying it all before the midway mark of the third period, but with less than three minutes remaining and the home team close to levelling
the contest, Ryan Carter made the insurance goal to take the match for the Devils.
"Roloson tried to play it," Carter said. "I'm not sure if he had it on his stick but it was in his feet and that surprised him. I'll take an open net ninety percent of the time."
New Jersey will be looking for their third straight victory before returning home as they face-off against the Florida Panthers on Monday, followed by a home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday.
Lightning on the other hand, has the next game at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
