Ryan Cochrane conquers Men’s 400m freestyle heats: Day three - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Ryan Cochrane of IS conquered the preliminary rounds Men’s 400m freestyle on third day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Thursday, March 29.
The 23-year-old Cochrane devastated struggles of his supporters by earning top qualification spot of the event. He stayed prominently ahead of his challengers from the beginning and sprinted his way towards the finishing blockade as fastest swimmer.
Cochrane enjoyed an advantage of almost two body lengths over his closest swimmer, Kier Maitland of EKSC, and tapped the finishing wall with the timing of 3 minutes and 50.73 seconds to enter the final. His scintillating swim stayed nearly four seconds ahead
of Maitland, who submitted an effort of 3 minutes and 54.31 seconds to qualify for the final.
The third finest qualification spot of the race was obtained by Mark Randall of CTA-SE, who was just 0.01 seconds slower from his former finisher and ended his swim by reporting a time of 3 minutes and 54.32 seconds.
Randall stayed 0.03 seconds faster from his subsequent rival, Chad Bobrosky, who proved his eligibility for the fourth fastest spot of the event as he ended his sprint in a time of 3 minutes and 54.35 seconds.
The 19-year-old Bobrosky was followed by Alec Page of IS, who made his way into the next round of the event by hitting the wall with the timing of 3 minutes and 55.44 seconds for fifth position.
Arturo Perez Vertti Ferrer of Mexico was the sixth fastest swimmer to complete his race as he stayed just 0.20 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing end with an effort of 3 minutes and 55.64 seconds.
Frank Despond of TSC secured seventh best qualification spot of the event as he completed his race in a time of 3 minutes and 55.91 seconds. Despond was chased by William Brothers of IS, who posted an effort of 3 minutes and 56.80 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, the session ended after the completion of all listed events while the championship will end on April 1 after the finalisation of Canadian team to London Games.
