Ryan Cochrane of IS pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on third day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Thursday, March 29.
Cochrane met expectations of his supporters by winning gold medal of the discipline in a wonderful manner. His astounding effort stayed almost two body lengths ahead of his strongest competitor and he faced no trouble in confirming his place in the Canadian
squad to 2012 London Olympics.
Cochrane was chased by Chad Bobrosky of CASC, who stayed nearly 5.50 seconds slower form his former finisher and transpired on the finishing end for silver medal by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 52.65 seconds.
Bobrosky was trailed by Alec Page of IS, who remained 0.55 seconds slower from overpowering his former finisher and tapped the finishing wall with an effort of 3 minutes and 53.20 seconds for bronze medal.
Page remained 1.46 seconds ahead of his teammate, Keegan Zanatta, who failed to secure the podium and settled on the finishing end as fourth fastest finisher by posting a time of 3 minutes and 54.66 seconds.
Zanatta was chased by Frank Despond of TSC, who remained just 0.05 seconds slower and ended fifth by completing his swim in a time of 3 minutes and 54.71 seconds. He stayed almost 0.50 seconds ahead of UVPCS’s Nicholas Sinclair, who completed his swim in
sixth fastest place by posting a time of 3 minutes and 55.23 seconds.
In the meantime, Kier Maitland of EKSC managed to seize seventh best qualification spot of the event. Maitland remained almost half a second slower from his preceding swimmer and clocked an effort of 3 minutes and 56.71 seconds.
