Ryan Day believes he needs to change his mental approach: 2012 Welsh Open at Newport Centre
Local favourite, Ryan Day was not able to perform according to the expectations of the home crowd and he crashed out of the 2012 Welsh Open at the hands of England’s Michael Holt by the score line of 4-0. After facing a whitewash defeat in the final qualifying
match, the Pontycymer potter believes he needs to change his mental approach before going into any match during a major tournament.
The 31-year-old while speaking to Walesonline said, “It is just back to the drawing board, freshen up and work on my approach. There are two tournaments left so I will just go away, work hard and hope things change. I just need to do something completely
different. That was the third time I have been whitewashed in the last four matches, so there is definitely something up.”
The Bridgend based cueman added, “I think maybe a change of mental approach before the game is in order. I have been speaking to a few people about it so, over the next couple of months and into next season, I will be looking to go down that road.”
The Welshman tried his best to make his presence felt at the Newport Centre arena but he failed to impress the spectators. The Dynamite was not allowed by his opponent to come at the table and claim any frame.
Holt looked quite focused and determined to win the qualifier as he had made it to the last qualifier after missing a defeat at the hands of Alfie Burden in the penultimate battle. He has now promoted himself in the ranking and will next meet compatriot
Stephen Lee in the second round. If Holt manages to win a couple of more matches, he will successfully place himself in the top-32.
Day, on the other hand, has now tumbled down to 28th rank which means he is still in the top-32 and has survived slipping out of the top-32 list. Despite being the former Number one ranked player in Wales, Day could only compile 25 points during
the match while Holt grabbed the rest with his classy performance.
