Ryan Dempster’s addition in Red Sox roster will provide good offence – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox have continued their efforts to give boost to their dire pitching offence as they added former Texas Rangers starting pitcher Ryan Dempster in the starting rotation by giving him two-year contract. With Dempster’s inclusion in the roster, the Red Sox management is hoping a better 2013 Major League Baseball season.
“One of the things that we’ve been lacking is reliability, someone who can be a reliable, durable part of the rotation, We feel like we need to go into 2013 with more starting pitching depth than we have right now,” Boston Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said yesterday before the agreement had been reached.
Last season, Red Sox suffered several defeats due to their poor pitching which also caused them in the later stages of the season as they could not qualify for the post season. However, now news is coming in the media that Red Sox’s pitching offence will give them stability as they signed a two-year contract with free agent Ryan Dempster.
“It’s one data point in a lot of different data points,” Cherington said. “You have to look at that and look at the performance track record and where he’s done it and who he’s done it against, what he projects going forward, makeup — all those things considered.”
Dempster last played for the Texas Rangers in the recent past season. He played quite well and achieved consistent numbers. He finished the season by achieving 3.38 ERA along with 12-8 win-loss, 153 strikeouts and 1.20 WHIP.
Many say this recent signing by the Boston Red Sox management is a healthy sign as it will address their future season’s deficiency. The starting rotation gets another hope as Dempster will also play as backup for their current main pitchers.
Dempster and Red Sox have been talking about a potential contract for two years now while finally this new beginning will prove a better good start for both sides. The two year contract between Dempster and Red Sox is reportedly worth $26.5 million.
Experts believe that Red Sox will now enter into the fresh Major League season with more confidence and play with their best abilities.
