Ryan Doumit shines as Pittsburgh Pirates defeat St. Louis Cardinals 6-2 - MLB Update

Pittsburgh Pirates’ catcher, Ryan Doumit had a tremendous day with the bat as he went 4-for-4 with an average of .302 and hit three RBIs including one run in the Pirates’ 6-2 victory against St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park, Pittsburgh on August 15.
Pirates led off 1-0 at the bottom of first inning when Xavier Paul struck a solo homer towards centre-field. In second inning, Matt Holliday drove a double-run shot to deep centre-field while rest of his two team-mates, Lance Berkman and David Freese both
struck-out looking without the addition of even a single run.
Similarly, Pirates also remained score-less at the bottom of second inning as Doumit singled off right-field but at first base, Neil Walker grounded out and at second base, Garrett Jones grounded out without taking any run. Cardinals’ batters added one run
during third inning to tie the game 1-1.
Ryan Theriot posted a tie run for Cardinals when Rafael Furcal drove a double-run shot towards deep right-centre. But the Pirates went ahead 4-1 by blasting three runs in fourth inning. Doumit hit a home-run towards right-field while Walker and Jones added
two collective runs for Pirates to lift their momentum.
The pitchers threw some perfect pitches in fifth inning to stop the runs of the batters. Pirates’ starter, James McDonald also shined as he pitched just over five innings and surrendered just two runs, six hits, four strike-outs and two earned runs with
an ERA of 4.20. He permitted only two walks on his 92 pitches.
In sixth inning, Cardinals were able to score one run to shorten their lead while Pirates also posted one run to raise their lead 5-2, at the bottom of sixth inning. Albert Pujols scored a single run when Freese singled to centre-field and Berkman occupied
second base. On the other side, Walker scored one run for Pirates when Ronny Cedeno hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to short-stop and Doumit moved to second base to end the sixth inning.
Pirates got a 6-2 lead at the bottom of seventh inning when Walker doubled to deep right-field and Ryan Ludwick added a single run. In last two innings, the batters were resisted through the accurate throws of pitchers.
After having a decent win, Pirates led off the three-game series 1-0 at Pittsburgh.
