Ryan Giggs - A True Red
Manchester United fans have seen players like Beckham, Keane, Vannistelrooy, Scholes, Ronaldo and Rooney among others who have graced the famous pitch at Old Trafford in recent past. But, there has been one constant throughout the years, one player who has
won the hearts of United fans for his loyalty, commitment, all-round charm and personality. He is Ryan Joseph Giggs.
What has made the man from Wales, the most loved player of the fans of the club and the most respected by rival clubs' fans? There has been so much that Ryan Giggs, or Giggsy, as he is affectionately called by his friends and fans, has achieved in his almost
twenty year association with Manchester United, that even a book on his achievements and exploits would not be enough to list them all. While most players now have short careers and only a few years at the top of the game,
Giggsy has consistently been a mainstay in the Manchester United team and won trophies and awards along the way, making him the most decorated player in English football history.
Giggs started off his football career as a left winger famous for his electric pace, elastic dribbling, deadly finishing and an eye for the killer pass. A nightmare for opposition defenders who consistently saw him running at them with the ball at staggering
pace. Giggs was seen as one of the best young talents of the time since George best in the 1960s and also one of the integral parts in the rise of Manchester United back to dominance in English football during the Nineties with the club winning its first league
title in almost 26 years and continuing on to be the most dominant club in the country. Giggs was crucial to the club’s cause with his outstanding play, excellent assists and all important goals, famously highlighted in the treble winning season of 1998-1999
in which he scored the FA Cup goal of the century, a goal which will forever live in the memory of all Manchester United fans, against Arsenal.
As a tribute to the commitment of the man, he has reinvented himself as a player despite injuries and age, and become a more central, creative player who is more reliant on his creative passing and superior vision, something that has been rewarded by his
selection as the PFA player of the year in 2009.
Off the field, Giggs has led an incident free life and maintained a low profile throughout the years, whether it was during his teenage years as a poster boy of the most famous football team in the country, or his later years of being a legend at a club
the size of Manchester United. Giggs has also actively participated in charity work and recently held the role of an ambassador for UNICEF. He has been a disciplined player with no sending offs while playing for Manchester United, further emphasizing that
his personality on the pitch reflects his life off it.
The only blemish in Giggs’ career can be that he has never appeared in a major international tournament for his country, Wales. However, he is considered a club legend by many fans and critics alike, as he holds numerous records like the only player to have
scored in all Premier League seasons to date, the record appearance holder for his club. Being the most decorated player in club football, the evergreen Ryan Giggs continues to defy the years and be one of the most important players for his club. A Manchester
United fan as a kid, a Manchester United legend when he retires, Ryan Giggs is a True Red.
