Ryan Giggs: Manchester United must beat Liverpool
Veteran Manchester United star Ryan Giggs insisted today that Manchester United must beat fierce rivals Liverpool this Sunday in order to get their English Premier League campaign back on track.
The 36-year-old spoke out after the poor run Red Devils have endured. They have drawn two of their last three games in the league — a 2-2 tie with Fulham and a 3-3 stalemate at Everton, coming either side of a 3-0 victory over West Ham United. The team were
also held to a goalless draw by the Rangers (Scottish Premier League champions) at Old Trafford this week.
The results have meant that United is already four points behind defending EPL champions Chelsea, who are in outstanding form, having scored 17 goals in their four league games so far.
That being said, Giggs believes that Sir Alex Ferguson’s men can stop the rot with a win over Roy Hodgson’s team at home this weekend, and use the victory to boost their confidence and put together a string of wins.
He spoke to The Mirror about the atmosphere the crowd generates for the annual Old Trafford clash against their North East rivals. Giggs said that, “The crowd will light up. It’s usually a quick game and it’s usually a ferocious game, so hopefully
it’s the kind of game that sets us back on the winning trail. No matter how the teams are doing, it’s always the big game of the season. It’s always the one you look forward to, the atmosphere will be brilliant here and all the players will be up for it.”

Giggs continued, "You just feel that intensity when you play Liverpool, no matter how they are doing. Chelsea and Arsenal are big games — but a local derby against Liverpool, and the history between the two clubs makes it special."
