Manchester United’s veteran midfielder Ryan Giggs has said that Wayne Rooney should not be underestimated, and the striker may explode at the end of the season. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international has not been in his best form this season,
having been able to get just three goals so far, two of which came from the penalty spot.
Giggs, however, continues to keep his faith in Rooney and maintains that the striker’s overall performance has been excellent. While talking to a British newspaper, he said that while strikers are usually only judged by the number
of goals they score, there is a lot more that Rooney has to offer. He cited United's recent match against Birmingham as an example, during which Rooney was involved in four goals without being the one to score them. Giggs specifically pointed out the third goal
in the first half that he himself scored; he said that the cross sent in by Rooney was what set up the goal. So despite him not scoring, no one in the team is worried about his form as he is a big influence in every game.
“As long as the team is doing well, that's the main thing. And we know that sooner or later Wayne will start scoring,” said Giggs.
The importance of a Wayne Rooney for the team is emphasised by the number of his teammates coming to defend the striker. John O’Shea, the utility player for United, is another one who has come out in Rooney’s defence.
“Wayne will soon be back on the goal trail because of his quality,” said O’Shea. “I'm sure the chances like the one he missed towards the back post against Birmingham will be flying in no time.”
Giggs also praised the free-scoring Dimitar Berbatov, saying that he deserves all the praises he is getting. The left winger said that Berbatov is a rare talent, and his ability to control the ball and play with nonchalant ease
is a rare quality. Giggs went on to say that in his two decades as a United player, he has never played alongside a player like Berbatov – who he noted was oft criticized in his first two seasons for his lack of goals and lack of effort.
The left winger also touched on the sensitive topic of emulating Arsenal’s invincible 2004 season. Giggs said that Sir Alex Ferguson is making sure that no one in the camp focuses solely on emulating the unbeaten Arsenal season,
but added that there is still a great sense of motivation in the camp to maintain the unbeaten run, as that would of course also help them go on and win the title.
Giggs ended by saying that he is excited to be part of the team that overhauls the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 record of 18 league titles, and added that when he was a kid at Old Trafford, Ferguson used to talk about beating Liverpool’s record and
if they manage to do it this season it would be an amazing achievement.
