Ryan Giggs content with current squad while Anderson survives a serious car accident
Brazilian midfielder Anderson survived a brutal car crash in Portugal on Saturday morning. The 22-year-old had to spend quite a few hours in the local hospital after the crash, which occurred in the North of Portugal in the city of Braga. The matter is now a police case and a complete investigation is expected. According to the witnesses who saw the crash happening, Anderson along with a man and woman were pulled out of the car in an unconscious state. According to reports, Anderson spent the night with a certain Miss Sardinha Biba and left the club in the morning in his Audi R8. The car exploded following the accident, but luckily all of three of the people in the car survived the crash. The player suffered a knee injury, and his season ended pre-maturely. Anderson is expected to fly to Manchester as soon as he recovers and would want to get his rehabilitation process going.
The knee injury led to Anderson missing the 2010 FIFA World Cup as well, and he would want to get back to his fitness to fight for a place in the team. The 22-year-old joined Manchester United from Porto back in 2007 and has made 55 first team appearances, scoring just one goal. Anderson should consider himself lucky to have survived such a crash, which may well have ended his career and perhaps his life.
Meanwhile, legendary midfielder Ryan Giggs expressed his satisfaction over Manchester United’s current squad. The left-winger stated that United has no need to sign a “big name” in order to compete for the title this season. Rivals Manchester City has been the most active in the transfer market this season and has signed some high profile players. David Silva, Jerome Boateng and Yaya Toure have all inked deals with City this season, which in turn pose a big threat to the so called “big four”. Other clubs have been relatively silent, with both Chelsea and United yet to sign a player in the summer market. Youngsters Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling agreed deals while the season was still going through and officially signed with the club on 1st July. Many believe that United doesn’t have the finances to match those of rivals City, but Giggs believes that his club is in no hurry to sign more players. The veteran midfielder expressed his faith in manager Sir Alex Ferguson, claiming that the manager had enough depth in the squad to regain the premier league crown.
Manchester United slipped to the second spot this season, owing to just one point between them and the champions Chelsea. It was a good result nonetheless, as United lost two of their top players in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez. Ryan Giggs however insists that young players can prove themselves and provide the club with the inspiration needed to lift the premier league crown once again.
"We don't need a marquee signing before the deadline," claimed the 36-year-old midfielder. Giggs stated that the current squad was very talented and United possessed one of the most capable squad in the country. The player added that the quality of the players in the squad was amazing and there are many players who are returning from injury.
The veteran midfielder stated that there are also a couple of players who have returned from their season-long loans and have greatly impressed everyone in the pre-season. Giggs would be looking to win his 11th Premier league medal when he plays in his 21st year with Manchester United. In his own words, Giggs stated that he’s least concerned with the number of titles he can get as a player, but looks to make history with United as a whole. The player stated that he was not done yet and is currently aiming to move forward with the team. Manchester United plays Newcastle United in their opening match of the season.
