Manchester United midfielder, Ryan Giggs, is happy to play in the central midfield role despite being a natural left winger.
Giggs was inspirational in United’s 2-1 victory over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in the second leg of the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, 12th April, 2011. United won 3-1 on aggregate after winning the first leg 1-0 at Stamford Bridge last week. Giggs provided assists in all the three goals that the Red Devils scored in the two-legged tie and was the catalyst behind United’s success.
Despite turning 37 in November last year, the Welshman is showing no signs of retirement and continues to impress everyone with his evergreen displays. Giggs added that he has always enjoyed the central midfield role whenever the manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has asked him to play there in the big matches.
"I enjoy it. I've got Carras (Carrick) next to me, who was fantastic in the two games and it makes it easier when you've got the likes of Ji and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nani-c27299 and Antonio around you, so I enjoyed it in there. I think it's easier in there than on the wing. On the wing you need to get up and down, in midfield you can just pick your moments, really. I enjoy it in there."
Giggs also paid tribute to the Chelsea side for putting up an exciting game at the Old Trafford. He added that United rode some luck in the game which helped them to qualify for the semi-finals. United survived a penalty claim against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231 in the first-leg and a marginal offside against Javier Hernandez for the opening goal in the second-leg.
"It was a tough game tonight, Chelsea gave us a great game and we're always pleased to get through to the semis. Obviously they needed to score, we just knew that we needed to try and score as well to try and take a bit of the pressure off us.”
The veteran midfielder added that his team did well to stick to their game plan despite Chelsea applying constant pressure on them.
Giggs will be looking to play another big role when United take on Manchester City in the semi-finals of the FA Cup at the Wembley stadium on 16th April, 2011.
