Ryan Giggs eyes trophies for talented Manchester United squad
Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs has said that the abundance of talent in his team should lead to silverware this season.
The midfielder, who is the only player to have scored in every season of the Premier League, said he is confident Sir Alex Ferguson will guide United to trophies this season after only winning the league cup last year.
"I see trophies in this team. The manager has had a lot of problems this season picking the team because a lot of the players have been fit," said Giggs, who believes this team to be one of the strongest United squads he has been a part of.
"Look at the quality of those who are not even getting [off] the bench. It is not very nice for those lads, but it is great for the club and the team. We know we will get injuries and suspensions, but it looks like we can cope. Last season we didn't. In
that respect, we are a lot stronger."
Concentration is a must
Giggs, who is closing in on 600 league appearances for Ferguson's team, added that technical ability and physical strength must be matched by mental resolve on the pitch.
"Concentration is a little detail that is really important. Bryan Robson and Roy Keane had it. They could concentrate full on for 90 minutes. But that is a very hard thing to do because you see players losing their concentration all the time."
The United team, who has had trouble collecting wins on their away trips in the league this year, are constantly reminded of the importance of maintaining focus by Ferguson, who has coached the team since 1986.
"The manager is always talking about it. He believes we have the ability. He believes we have the desire and the hunger. He just keeps drilling it into us about concentration. If you are a striker, you might not have had a chance in the entire game. You
still need to be alert enough in the 89th minute to put it away."
United play their next league game on Saturday, October 16, at home to West Bromwich Albion.
