Ryan Giggs links Manchester United’s comeback to victory against Liverpool
Manchester United’s veteran midfielder, Ryan Giggs has argued that a victory against Liverpool would be enough motivation to get their troubled season right back on track.
Man United and Liverpool share a lot of bad blood and each time these two sides meet, a truly exciting and grueling encounter can always be expected. Liverpool, under their new manager, Roy Hodgson would be travelling to Old Trafford over the weekend, with
both sides not in their best of form so far in the season. United have thrown away four points in silly draws against both Fulham and Everton while they also couldn’t find even a single goal during Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw against Glasgow Rangers in the Champions
league.
Giggs, who would be turning 37 in two months time, has admitted that it is now time for the Red Devils to fire things up this season. Giggs admits that they can use Sunday's match to ignite their season. "The crowd will light up. It's usually a quick and
ferocious game, so hopefully it's the kind of game that sets us back on the winning trail. No matter how the teams are doing, it's always the big game of the season. It's always the one you look forward to, the atmosphere will be brilliant here and all the
players will be up for it.”
Giggs claimed that even though he has played Liverpool on numerous occasions during his 18 year career at United, the intensity has always remained the same no matter how the season is progressing. The left winger added that games with Chelsea and Arsenal
are big too, but with Liverpool, it’s a local derby and the history both the clubs share makes the encounter special.
He said that the Liverpool game has always been important for the Red Devils but didn’t recognize this match as being the make or break game of the season. The midfielder highlighted that there are still a lot of good aspects to their 3-3 draw against Everton
and generally, his side are in good nick. The 37-year-old outlined that the thing lacking in the club is their inability to finish off the opposition, which was evident in the Rangers game also.
With Chelsea already in a four point lead from the 18 time champions, Giggs pointed out that there is absolutely no room left for more slip ups. Over the past 6 to 7 years, United have always shown a dip in form during the opening games but found their footing
later, especially in the second half of the season. Even after losing two top class players in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, United finished second last season, with only a point in between them and champions Chelsea.
Giggs further claimed that it may be due to the lack of breaks that the side is under performing and frequent lapses in concentration can also be a major reason behind losing lead late in the game. The midfielder stated that given the opportunities the Red
Devils create in each game, United can easily finish off opponents 4-5 nil.
This would be Ryan Giggs’ 18th season with the club while he has the record of scoring in each of those seasons. Giggs has enjoyed top form during his 18-year career and apart from his first season, he has made no less than 30 appearances in total
in any season. Giggs would be looking for his 12th premier league title with Manchester United, as his side looks to put an end to Liverpool’s bragging right of being the most successful team in English league.
