Ryan Giggs sees another Ronaldo in Nani
The veteran Manchester United winger, Ryan Giggs has claimed that Nani has every chance to become the next big thing at Manchester United and he can reach the level of his former team-mate, Cristiano Ronaldo. Nani recently scored a brilliant brace for his
National side in the Euro 2012 qualifiers, when Portugal defeated Denmark by 3-0.
Earlier, Nani had followed the footsteps of Ronaldo and joined Manchester United in 2007. Just like Ronaldo, Nani was also a product of Sporting Lisbon Academy and was expected to do some great wonders at Manchester United. The player was usually labelled
as the one for the future but he was inconsistent in his early years with United. He failed to make a mark on the team in his first two seasons but showed massive signs of improvement in the second half of last season.
Now, Nani has become one of the most important players in the United line-up and Ryan Giggs has full faith in him to become the club’s all time best players. Giggs claimed that the player has the potential and the talent to emulate the achievements of his
former team-mate at United, provided that he acts on the advice of his colleagues and coaches.
"I think Nani is ready to step up to that next level now. He has always been a match-winner but he needs to do it consistently. This season, he has already made seven or eight goals and scored a couple but he can do better and improve and there is more to
come.” claimed the veteran midfielder.
The 37-year-old added that Nani has started to fill in the huge gap which was created owing to Ronaldo’s departure, last season. Nani’s strikes and solo runs like the ones against Bolton show the quality the player has in him and it would only be a matter
of time before he becomes one of the best in the game.
"What he needs to do now is add more goals to his game. He needs to score 20 goals a season and make 20 goals. If he does that, and he is capable of it, that is all you can ask from a wide player”, stated Giggs in his advice to the 23-year-old winger.
Giggs explained that being the senior most player in the squad, he speaks to all the wingers about the importance of positional play. In a 4-4-2 formation, Giggs emphasized that the wingers also need to know about their defensive obligations, which is a
new concept to everyone who joins the club.
"But I've played a lot of that and I understand what is needed from a player who plays out wide and has an attacking role. You speak to those in your position all the time and Nani is very good at listening to that kind of advice”, stated the veteran midfielder.
Giggs, therefore, maintained that he would love to pass on his priceless experience to the younger lot and that is what he does with Nani. The Welsh underlined that Nani would need to keep his calm throughout the game and he had full faith in the player
to learn from his mistakes and add more goals to his tally.
It would surely be beneficial for Nani’s development as a player to listen to whatever advice Ryan Giggs gives him, as the Welsh has spent 20 years with the club and has managed to play with the best players of his generation.
Giggs explained his early days with the club, stating that when he had joined the club, he had never thought that he would be here for this long. Aims and ambitions change over time as in the start, players think of securing a first team spot. Once that
is done, the greed for trophies, awards and silverware becomes the motivational force and that is exactly what happened with Ryan Giggs in his early years.
