Ryan Harris vows to put injury fears behind and perform
Ryan Harris was suspicious a week before the Ashes regarding his fitness to play in the series of glory. But all that proved to be a myth following his outstanding bowling displays at Adelaide and Perth. He seems all fit now to feature on the Boxing Day,
trying again to put his team in the front. Harris, who suffers from pain in the right knee, has put the injury behind him and is ready to fire in the next encounter. The WACA performance boosted his energy and confidence, helping him claim 6 wickets for just
47 runs in the second innings.
He was uncertain before the start of the Ashes, concerned about his knee pain. The focus shifted for a moment, narrating to him passive thoughts that he should not play. But the glory at stake was too high to ignore, and he was ready for a recall in the
second Test. He describes this as “special” to him. A position threatening him for an aggravation to the injury, and still coming in and taking part in the game gave him a lesson. This was a lesson that made him understand that once the performance is up to
the standards, minor injuries vanish away. Harris explains how the moment of leveling off the series with 1-1 is a mesmerizing feeling, considering the morale of the team after the first two Tests.
In fact his pain has suddenly disappeared. Considering his awful position at the start of the summer, where he had to remove the fluid in his knee joints as a result of bone to bone collision, the player has recovered majestically. This time he is certain
that it will be a chit chat time with the surgeon, and nothing like the past would be repeated.
Ryan Harris believes that the memories of the last Boxing Day Test are not that “comforting”. That was the game when he suffered from a spine injury, resulting in severe pain at times. “The thought of it actually gets you nervous,” explained Harris, remembering
the old times. But he was adamant that he has to put that all behind him now, if the match is to be won. The career best figures at Perth have certainly earned him a berth in the upcoming Test, due to start on the 26th of this month. Analyzing his
marvelous form, it can be concluded that he will surely be one of the spearhead bowlers from the Australian perspective, in the upcoming matches.
