Ryan Harrison bulldozes Jesse Levine in the round of 16 – Hall of Fame Tennis Championships 2012
In an All-American second round clash, Ryan Harrison did not show any respite to his countryman, defeating Jesse Levine in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in the second round at the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships on Thursday.
Harrison required just an hour and 11 minutes to undo his compatriot in a one sided contest.
Both players held their serve in the first three games to take the score to 2-1 in Harrison’s favour. The 20-year-old clinched a breakthrough in the fourth and consolidated on it to race to a 4-1 lead. Harrison did not allow his
countryman to stage a comeback and sealed it 6-3.
The higher ranked player among these two, Harrison, bombarded five aces and committed one double fault in the opening set. The 6ft tall had a slightly below average first serve percentage of 57 but managed to win 14 of the 20 points
on them. Harrison put away all the three break threats he came across and availed one of the two chances he created.
In the second set, Harrison and Levine completely dominated on their serve in the opening four games, taking the score to 2-2. The lower ranked player, Levine, was up 40-15 in the fifth but lost five of the following six points
to lose his serve and go down 2-3. Harrison did not allow his compatriot to get back in the set, easily serving it out at 5-4.
The right-hander, Harrison, could not match his opening set’s performance but still hit a couple of aces in the second one. The American kept his first serve percentage at 79 and claimed 16 of the 19 points on them. This time,
he also gave an impressive performance on the second deliveries, as he secured four of the five points.
This is turning out to be Harrison’s breakthrough year, as he has given some pretty impressive performance in this season. The American advanced to the first tour level semi-final of his career at the SAP Open, losing to Milos
Raonic of Canada. He stunned the then 25th ranked player, Viktor Troicki, in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open and went on to reach the last 16 for the first time at an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event. The Texas, USA resident advanced to
his second tour level semi-final at the AEGON International.
Harrison has a great chance to reach the last-four stage for the third time in this season, as he is pitted against the German qualifier, Benjamin Becker, in the quarter-finals.
