Ryan Harrison dumps Ivo Minar to reach the main draw – Brisbane International 2013
Seeded at number two in the qualifying draw, Ryan Harrison, overwhelmed the Czech professional, Ivo Minar, in straight sets to reach the main rounds of Brisbane International on Monday morning. The American tennis prodigy wrapped
up his victory in exactly one hour, settling the final score line at 6-4, 6-1, in the qualifying competition of the ATP World Tour 250 event in Brisbane, Australia.
69th ranked Harrison was the hot favourite for winning prior to the start of the match. He hadn’t played against Minar in the past but the 189th ranked Czech was anticipated to be easy bait for the crafty
American youngster. The second seed took a steady start in the contest but one finding his winning groove, he didn’t look back and rocketed away to victory in a comprehensive manner.
Minar remained very competitive in the opening phase of the match and kept moving with his superior ranked opponent on even terms. The opening nine games of the match didn’t witnessed any anomalies and both players kept holding
their serves with authority. Harrison frittered away four break opportunities but finally nailed on in the most crucial 10th game of the set. He took the opener at 6-4 to get in the driving seat at 1-0 set score.
The second seeded American turned to his rage mode right from the beginning of the following set, breaking Minar in his very first serve game and holding his own serves to impose a 3-0 lead. Minar held just one of his serve in
the fourth game before another cracking break of serve from Harrison threw him out of the tournament with a breadstick.
Harrison beat his opponent in every segment of the game and gave him limited chances to come on top. The American youngster delivered his 67 per cent of first serve on target, belting five thudding aces and winning 25 out of 35
points on it. He crafted a total of eight break opportunities in the matchup but on three conversions proved sufficient to brush away the bleak resistance of Minar. On the other hand, the Czech contestant could create merely one break point in the entire match
and failed to convert it.
