Ryan Harrison ousts Milos Raonic to qualify for the fourth round of BNP Paribas Open
World number 152 Ryan Harrison of USA upset world number 37 Milos Raonic of Canada in three sets 7-6(1), 4-6, 6-4 in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells on Tuesday. The American took 2 hours and 29 minutes to
undo his opponent.
In the opening set, both players held their serves in the first twelve games to level the score at 6-6, forcing a tie-break. Harrison completely dominated the tie-break as he clinched three mini-breaks, winning it 7-1.
The American fired in 5 aces and 57 per cent of the first serves in the first set. Raonic was better than Harrison in this particular statistic as he hit 8 aces and 74 per cent of the first serves. Both players saved 100 per cent
of the break points they faced in the opening set.
After losing the first set in a tough contest, Raonic came back in the second set as he broke Harrison in the tenth game, winning the set 6-4.
The Canadian delivered 63 per cent of the first serves in the second set, winning 82 per cent of the points on them. In comparison, Harrison hit 48 per cent of the first serves and converted 87 of them into points.
In the final set, Harrison took an early lead as he broke Raonic in the opening game and then held his next service game to go ahead 2-0. The right handed broke his opponent again in the seventh game, taking a 5-2 lead. Harrison
failed to hold his serve in the next game, allowing Raonic to reduce his opponent’s lead to 4-5. However, Harrison held his serve in the tenth game to clinch the set 6-4.
The American converted 2 of the 3 break points he received in the third set. On the other hand, Raonic won just 1 of the 3 break points.
The 18-year-old will face will face world number 2, the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer in the fourth round. This will be the first meeting between these two.
