Ryan Hinshaw and Matt Grevers secure gold medals in Men’s events - 2011 Southwest Classic Tucson
Ryan Hinshaw of the Santa Clara Swim Club-PC and Matthew Grevers of Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics-AZ snagged gold medals in the Men’s 400m freestyle and 100m back-stroke categories, on the fourth day of the 2011 Southwest Classic Tucson.
Hinshaw captured his first title of the championship, while Grevers occupied his third gold medal of the international swimming meet.
Hinshaw comfortably pocketed the title of the event, by appearing on the wall in a fastest time of 4 minutes and 02.91 seconds. He was almost three seconds away from his closest rival, Ridge Grimsey, who won the silver medal of the distant freestyle swim
in a time of 4 minutes and 05.85 seconds. Matthew Stanley of New Zealand followed them on the podium for the bronze medal by posting a time of 4 minutes and 06.58 seconds.
Ryan’s team-mate, Sam E Shimomura, finished his swim in the fourth fastest spot by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 06.65 seconds. He was followed by AJ J Tipton of Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics-AZ, who presented an impressive swim of 4 minutes and 11.47
seconds for the fifth position. Similarly, Josh R Olszewski of Sun Devil Aquatics-AZ displayed a fine swim of 4 minutes and 12.44 seconds for the sixth fastest spot.
Santa Clara’s Howie Chang and Australia’s Jack Mcloughlin were engaged in a tough battle, where Chang ousted Mcloughlin with a difference of 0.03 seconds. Chang touched the wall in a time of 4 minutes and 14.18 seconds against Mcloughlin’s 4 minutes and
14.21 seconds effort.
In another event, Matt Grevers appeared on the starting blocks and dominated the Men’s 100m back-stroke. Grevers touched the wall in an astounding time of 57.30 seconds for the gold medal. He was followed by Cory M Chitwood and Darian Townsend, who stepped
on the podium for the silver and bronze efforts of 58.56 and 58.99 seconds, respectively.
The championships concluded after the final events, while Greves expressed contentment over his third win on the closing day of the international meet.
