Ryan Howard helps Philadelphia Phillies steal a 3-2 win against New York Mets - MLB Update
First baseman Ryan Howard puts up a splendid show as he hits a two-run homer in the ninth inning and takes the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-2 victory against the New York Mets at Citi Field, New York on September 19, 2012 in the second game of the three
match series.
Mets were leading by one run for the most part of the game. Despite the fact their lead was feeble it somehow remained intact and was about to ensure them a victory. If it was not for the last inning home-run coming off Howard, New York will have survived
until achieving the victory.
Mets will be fairly pleased with the seven innings thrown by their starter Matt Harvey on Wednesday. Harvey struck-out seven and allowed just one run.
Unfortunately he did not win. The game was another reflection of how the poor offence of the Mets is affecting win-loss record of their starters. This time around Harvey was the victim.
"There was definitely some excitement. I had some tingles. It was kind of a sad moment, I guess, because I knew I was done," Harvey said. "It was a good experience. ... I left it all out there."
Not too long ago, their starter R.A. Dickey suffered the same fate due to the hopelessly dismal performance by their batters.
Mets’ manager Terry Collins recommends Harvey to feel good and do not take the defeat to heart as he did his best. He wants him to take the experience this year positively and continues throwing quality innings in the next season.
"With this being his last start, I wish we would have got a win for him," manager Terry Collins said. "But Matt Harvey ought to spend the winter feeling pretty good about himself and the way he's handled everything up here, the way he's pitched."
As far as the Phillies were concerned, they relied entirely on home-runs in their journey toward the win on Wednesday. Shortstop Jimmy Rollins and Howard stepped up for them offensively.
Mets will be looking to post a greater number of runs next time and provide their pitchers enough support so that they can games. It will be interesting to see as to what extent they can be successful in this regard.
